Synopsis

Fear.
It's the last thing I remembered.
I was afraid.
Afraid to fight, afraid to run… afraid to breathe.
Then, everything had gone dark. As if life was finally hearing my pleas, my cries to end the torment. To end the fear.
But even in the dark, I still felt it.
I always felt it.
My life had been a ricochet of one event leading to the next. Bouncing back and forth from good to bad. Happiness to despair. Hope to fear.
My name is Arianna West. I'm stronger now. Steady. Alive.
I can find a way to survive on my own. I can see what is coming for me. I can channel my fear into strength.
Except… I didn't see Jack.
And Jack changed everything.
For readers 18+ due to language, violence, and sexual content.

About The Author

I live in Morgan Utah with my husband, daughter, and dog, Kolo. I write as often as my active daughter will let me and my husband has the patience of a saint. I find inspiration from dreams, people I meet, and life experiences. When I write, I usually end up drinking one too many cans of Peace Tea, eating three too many Fruit by the Foot fruit snacks, and accidentally kicking my pup and best buddy, Kolo, too many times since he loves to sleep under my desk at my feet.
I started writing as a teen, but my fear of the unknown won out every time and I threw everything out. After becoming a mother and deciding to stay at home to raise my beautiful little girl, I tried again when I couldn't stop thinking of ideas. I loved every minute, every hour of sleep lost, and every character that came to life in my mind.
It's strange, but my favorite moments are when I have writer's block because I can turn to my husband and find inspiration through him by just doing what we do best together. Talking, laughing, and just being in love. He doesn't like to read, but he never stops encouraging me to keep going.
Writing has become an important part of my life and every book has a special place in my heart.

Excerpt!

In the following excerpt, our heroine, Wraith (sniper of Delta Squad), and our hero, Casper Grady (a former Marine), have escaped an assassination attempt and are now in a temporary safe house in the Carolina mountains.

A little background: Wraith faked her death after her last mission went horribly wrong in order to escape SBG (or more accurately its CEO). The CEO got wind that she’s still alive and instead of celebrating, he sent assassins after her to rectify her still breathing status. In order to remain “dead,” she fabricated a new persona, Sandra Walsh, gained employment in Grady’s company, and never breathed a word about her past.

The same tension from the car crept into the room, causing her body temperature to rise with each passing second.
“Spill it,” he finally demanded.
“Spill what?” she asked. Damn, her voice sounded a little on the husky side.
He crossed his arms. “Don’t be coy. The trashed apartment, questioning me on stealth, then the James Bond skulking through the town of Ridge Creek while being shot at.” He waited a beat. “You’re not really from Ohio, are you?”
She stayed mute. Damn. Damn. Damn. She was not ready for this conversation.
“Is anything from your résumé true?”
She licked her lips. “Why would you ask that?”
His crystal-blue eyes narrowed.
Yeah, she was stalling. He wasn’t a dumb jarhead. The man owned a very successful business, for Christsake. She eyed his mutinous stance. Little waves quivered in her stomach at the way the polo hugged his expansive chest and his jeans sat just right on his hips. Shit, even the way he scowled at her now radiated tough masculinity. Her normal “off-limits” pep talk shattered at the sight, never to be recovered again. I’m in trouble.
He dropped his arms and stalked forward. She held her ground. Just watching him move closer felt like foreplay. He stopped inches away, his height looming above her own five-six frame.
Her mind blitzed, totally abandoning her.
“Do you take me for an idiot?” he asked in a low, silky voice.
His addicting scent, now sharper and more vivid since their run, encompassed her, making her even more attuned to his presence. She swallowed and tried to remember why he asked the question. Please lean down and kiss me. What did he ask? Kiss me. She should try to answer. “No?”
His eyebrow raised. “You asking or answering?” He lifted a hand and gently swiped a lock of hair behind her ear. Fire exploded along her skin at the contact. Her eyes flew to his lips and watched in fascination as they continued to form words. Kiss me, damn it. How could he not be affected like she was? Her body was beyond primed for him.

He knelt over my attacker, his strength visible in the stretch of the jacket over his back and shoulders. His helmet cocked, angled in my direction. “I had this.”
Oh my God, his voice. Okay, it was definitely synthesized, his timbre humming with an electronic overlay, but it was deep and gravelly and so goddamned sexy.
Pull yourself together, Kaci. He was far more dangerous than the man who just attacked me.
“Get out of here.” I nodded to the street behind me, and as if on cue, another squad car zoomed by. “I’ll hold him until you’re gone.”
What was I saying? I didn’t want him to leave.
I thought I heard a chuckle, but couldn’t be sure with the whine of sirens and exhaust pipes. He looked back at my attacker, swung an arm, and knocked him out. Damn. Okay, that worked too.
I lowered the gun. “You won the race?”
“Of course.” He rose and erased the distance between us in three strides.
My nerves shivered, overloaded and amped up, and oh God, he was just standing there, heating the air around me, staring at me. What did he want? I opened my mouth to spew a gushing thank you.
He snatched the gun from my hand.
What the? “Give that ba—”
He lifted my chin and stroked a gloved finger over the nicks on my throat. Each caress irritated the cuts, but I didn’t want him to stop. He raised the finger in front of my visor, blood soaking the leather tip. “Have you learned your lesson?”
His voice reverberated through me, and my knees weakened. Even with the electronic distortion, he sounded pissed.
My heart panted, and a throb swelled, hot and needy, between my legs. All because of a pissed-off synthesized voice? I might’ve just swallowed my self-respect, but I couldn't help it. My body had one mission, and that mission vibrated against me like he wanted to tear me in half. Damn me to hell, but my inner muscles clenched at the thought.
I touched my throat and flinched at the bite of pain. “It’s just a scratch.”
The reflection of my helmet in his visor wavered as he shook his head. He gazed down on me as if he were…considering something? God, I wished I could see his face, his eyes.
His finger returned to my throat, trailed a path beneath my chin, lifting it and catching on the edge of the helmet. He tugged it, like he wanted to rip off the shield and see my eyes, too. “Get on your bike, sweetheart.”
He flicked the safety on the gun and gripped my shoulders, turning my body to face the bike. Both bikes. His and mine side-by-side. Oh, how I loved the sight of that.
His fingers touched my hip, slipping beneath my jacket to stroke my bare skin. I trembled against the brush of his glove, until he opened his mouth. “This is your last race.”
The temperature in my helmet rose by ten degrees, and my cheeks inflamed. I glared at him over my shoulder. “Excuse me?”
Smack. A stinging jolt of fire rippled over my ass, and I shuffled forward. He fucking hit me! I placed my hands on the bike’s seat, and unbidden, a grin took hold of my face. He fucking spanked me.

Excerpt

Iolanthe appeared at the edge of the ruins and couldn’t stop herself from looking back. She couldn’t see the male, but she could feel him, and she knew he would be coming for her. She cursed him for wanting what she was after. He couldn’t have it. She needed it. Fernandez wasn’t the sort of male who changed his mind once he had set it on something. He wanted the item and she had promised to deliver it, and she meant to keep that promise.

She stepped forwards to leave but hesitated, looking back again.

She wasn’t sure what Kyter was, other than irritating and too handsome for his own good. She had tried several times to piece together all the clues he had given to her about his breed, but she had failed to draw a solid conclusion. The evidence was too scattered. She couldn’t scent or sense it on him either.

He was against her though, and that made him an enemy.

She turned on her heel to face the ruins. Moonlight bathed it, turning the crumbling buildings cold pale blue.

He wouldn’t leave the ruins. She knew that much. He seemed a rather stubborn man.

A rather gorgeous stubborn man.

She couldn’t get his image out of her head, how he had looked at her with intense golden eyes that shimmered with banked heat and had held her immobile. Those eyes had spoken to her of desire, setting her blood alight. She had been too entranced by him before he had poured the water over his fair, softly spiked hair, and it had run over his sculpted cheekbones, down the fine slope of his straight nose, and rolled along the sharp strong line of his jaw. It had been impossible to stop herself from tracking those beads of moisture over his honed body, watching them as they darted down the hard square slabs of his pectorals and rippled over the powerful muscles of his abdomen, marking his golden skin.

Just thinking about it heated her blood and had her breathing harder, her heart beating quicker.

Iolanthe shoved him out of her mind and shut down her sudden flush of arousal, mastering herself once more.

She picked out the building where they had talked.

Her control slipped again.

She didn’t like how she had felt in that moment when they had been against each other. She rubbed her hands over her bare arms and swallowed her racing heart. It unsettled her. She hadn’t felt in control of herself. She had experienced an overwhelming compulsion to drop her lips to his throat and run her tongue over the slender red line that marked it, tasting his strong blood. It had an intoxicating scent. He had an intoxicating scent.

And a seriously powerful physique that had felt better beneath her hands than she had thought possible.

Iolanthe cleared her throat and pushed that thought and the images of him pouring water over his sandy hair from her head. They persisted, replaying again how the drops had trickled down his chest, curling around his left nipple before skating down the ridges of his stomach, luring her gaze downwards to the fine trail of fair hair that led down from the sensual dip of his navel to the waist of his black combats.

A need to follow each rivulet with her tongue and tease his golden skin had flooded her in that moment, driving her to cross the room to him, slam his back against the column closest to him, and obey that urge.

The irritating male had done it on purpose. His golden eyes had flashed with satisfaction when she had blushed. Egotistical and disgusting male. He had been playing her. That knowledge should have been enough to douse any desire she felt for him.

But his reaction to her when she had pinned him to the ground had felt real. As real as her reaction to him.

The feel of his hard body beneath hers, his heart hammering against her palm where it pressed into his chest, and his golden eyes locked with hers, flooded and dark with desire, had triggered an alarming response within her.

More than just a desire to taste his blood.

She had desired to let her feet slide from his broad chest, allowing them to land on either side of him, and settle herself against his body. She had hungered to feel his hands claiming her hips, drawing her down against the apex of his thighs.

She had burned with a need to kiss him.

Iolanthe spat out a black curse in her native tongue.

Perhaps he was a sorcerer.

She felt as if he had bewitched her and hijacked her body, bending it to his will and enslaving her.

She took a step back and then another. She would give him his victory tonight, but she would return tomorrow and hope that he had moved on. She didn’t want to meet him again, but she had no choice but to risk it and return. She had to investigate the area where he had been.

Whether he knew it or not, he had chosen one of two spots that matched the riddle her demon contact had given her.

The fresco he had been admiring was of Minerva, Juno and Hercules. Minerva. The ancient Roman goddess of wisdom. She looked off to her right, towards the darkness that concealed Vesuvius.

Knowledge in the shadow of a volcano.

Perhaps she should have chosen to look in the most obvious spot first, but the one she had chosen to explore had been one she had recalled from her visits to this place before the city had been decimated. The room she had been digging in had another room beneath it. That chamber had once held a statue of Minerva on a small marble plinth.

She wanted to go back and finish digging, but just the thought of running into the male again had her backing away from the site. He was sinfully handsome and strong. She flushed as she recalled the feel of his hard muscles beneath her fingers and the way he had smiled at her, his sensual lips lopsided and a wicked twinkle in his eyes.

Iolanthe burned inside, aching to press her hands to his golden skin again and feel his heart pounding against them, speaking of his harnessed power.

She took another step back instead and shook her head. It had been too long since she had been with a man, but she wasn’t about to sleep with the enemy.

She would return tomorrow night, when the ruins closed, and in the meantime she would build up her defences against the male and she would send a prayer to her gods.

A prayer that the male had moved on.

Canning The Center Blog Tour

Canning The Center
(Long Pass Chronicles, #2)
By Tara Lain

Blurb:
Six foot seven inch, 300 pound Jamal Jones loves football, so when he finds out the ultra-conservative owner of his new pro football team fired their current center because he’s gay, bisexual Jamal decides to stay in the closet and hang with the females. Then, at a small drag show, he comes face-to-face with his sexual fantasy in the form of Trixie LaRue, a drag queen so exquisitely convincing she scrambles Jamal’s hormones -- and his resolve to nurse his straight side.
Trevor Landry, aka Trixie LaRue, hides more than his genitals. A mathematician so brilliant he can’t be measured, Trevor disguises his astronomical IQ and his quirk for women’s clothes behind his act as a gay activist undergrad at Southern California University.

To Trevor, Jamal is the answer to a dream -- a man who can love and accept both his personas. When he discovers Jamal’s future is threatened if he’s seen with a guy, Trevor becomes Trixie to let Jamal pass as straight. But Trevor risks his position every time he puts on a dress. Is there a closet big enough to hold a football pro and a drag queen?

Trevor stuck out a
hand. “My name’s Trevor. Pleased to meet you.”

Jamal reached out to
take the offered handshake and—whoops! In one gentle pull on Trevor’s arm that
clearly required no effort on Jamal’s part, Trevor was up against that huge
chest. “I’m Jamal. I don’t mean to be presumptuous. Just tell me to stop. But
if I don’t kiss you again soon, I’m a dead man.”

Trevor smiled up
into those dark brown eyes. “I would never want to be accused of murder.”

Such full, full
lips. They moved slowly down, down to Trevor’s. The first touch sent a flash
like lightning through every nerve, and he shivered.

Jamal pulled back.
“Cold?”

“Quite the
contrary.” He wrapped his arms tightly around the bunny’s neck.

Invitation
delivered. Jamal’s mouth closed over Trevor’s. Those lips were just as soft as
they looked, but not as silky as the tongue that slipped into his mouth. Oh my,
a girl could get drunk on this sweetness. Trevor opened and received, allowing
exploration—and sharing it. His poor abused cock, which had spent a couple of
hours locked between his asscheeks, wanted to stretch in a whole new direction.
Sweet God, he hadn’t throbbed like this in ages. One leg crawled up Jamal’s ass
all by itself—and it was a long way up. Too far to get his bulge anywhere near
its rightful companion. His eyes popped open. “Well, damn. Not much chance of
sexing you up unless we’re lying down.”

Jamal chuckled. “Oh
no, sweet thing, there are advantages to all these muscles.”

He picked Trevor up
under the butt. Yes! Contact.

Trevor looked into
those melted chocolate eyes. “I am estimating your equipment fully matches in
size the other proportions of your body?” He wrapped his legs around Jamal’s
surprisingly narrow waist.

Instead of getting
all peacocky like he had the right to, Jamal kind of blushed. “Yeah. Sorry.”

“Surely you jest.”

He grinned, but he
was breathing hard. “So you don’t mind big all over?”

“Not one little
bit.”

Jamal rode Trev up
and down against his cock. Oh God, that felt so good. Trevor never had decent
sex because he had this reputation to uphold, and Trixie never had sex at all.
Jesus, that added up to one crappy sex life. But the bunny was like a world in
the middle. With Jamal, for the first time, he got to be both Trevor and Trixie
and that was whole and perfect and hot! “You might want to stop unless you
would enjoy watching me wash these jeans.”

“Better yet, how
about I take you out and we get to know each other before I quit football and
take up fucking you full time?”

Who could laugh at a
time like this? But he still did. He hugged that big, muscular frame tight and
rubbed his cock against Jamal’s huge bulge until they were both gasping. “No.
No, I think you better write the resignation letter.”

“Deal. But I could
take us out for root beer floats first.”

Trevor stopped. “I
love root beer.”

Jamal held him
still, their cocks still squashed in bliss. “You’re kidding. No one likes root
beer but me.”

“I do. It’s my
favorite.”

“There’s this
diner—”

“Okay, fuck sex. I
need a root beer float and a hamburger.”
